Good News: No Taxes on Miles, But Miles on Taxes
Saturday, Mar 02, 2002
The IRS has stated its position again that frequent flier miles you earn are not taxable. The bad news is they won't allow deductions for miles donated to charities. And two airlines have announced that you can earn miles at tax time. |
Delta Airlines is offering double SkyMiles if you pay your federal income taxes with the Delta SkyMiles Credit Card from American Express. That's two miles for every dollar charged! Here's the way you pay: first, file your 1040 federal tax return (by filling at the form or electronically); then, call 800-2PAY-TAX (800-272-9829) and follow the directions for paying. For more info on this offer, go to the American Express website (www10.americanexpress.com/sif/cda/page/0,1641,9316,00.asp#taxday).
America West Airlines' FlightFund members can earn up to 2,000 miles by having their taxes prepared for the first time by H&R Block. You get 500 miles for any online tax preparation, 1,000 miles for tax prep at a regular H&R Block office, and 2,000 miles for getting your taxes prepared at an H&R Block Premium office. For more information about this offer, and for the tax office nearest you, go to "hrblock.com" or call 800-HRBLOCK [800-472-5625) |
